Water-lifting wheel from the northern part of Syria
We have here the vertical shaft with the four beams in their proper place. The four heavy ashlars have the task of fixing the upper beam to the beam supports.

This huge water lifting wheel is powered by a donkey walking round and round. The donkey can be seen between the vertical shaft and the wall on the right. Two of the eight cogs may be seen on the vertical wheel.
