Hydraulic noria in the Islamic World

Noria in Hama, Syria Some of the greatest water wheels are to be seen in Syria and Iraq. Fifty years ago, there were a dozen of these wheels in Hama. The water was lifted from the river Orontes to the gardens, which were located thirty metres above the river. In this picture, we have an example of the triangular bearing block, which is known also in Morocco and Spain. [43]
