If you look at [32] you will understand that the two uppermost ropes lift the two sacks. The lower cords control the long nozzle so the water gushes out.

På rejser i ørkenområder medbringer man selv sin hejseanordning. Den består af en lædersæk og et tov. Enkelte steder - som her - kan brønden være forsynet med et taljeophæng. Tegningen er en gengivelse af et berømt persisk miniaturemaleri fra 1341. Det findes i Fogg Art Museum i Cambridge, Mass. i USA.
